Our Black Woman Magazine readers, please enjoy our interview!
As the CEO OF Grace Avail At Home LLC, and a passionate healthcare industry advocate, what would you say is the current state of the healthcare field post-Covid?
Shamika: I feel the current state for the healthcare industry pertaining to post-covid is detrimental due to poor staffing issues and us as healthcare leaders and professionals are obligated to increase wages while also increasing our prices for service to help maintain and keep staff members. At this time I feel saddened because this is when our aging population needs us the most and it’s hard to staff homes let alone hospitals, assisted living and nursing homes as well. I foresee continued changes from here on out and us as business owners need to try and remain ten steps ahead by recreating the system or recreating services innovatively.
What do you enjoy most about the work that you do?
Shamika: I enjoy helping others and seeing their progress from start to finish. I ultimately enjoy taking care of my aging population and the less fortunate. Less fortunate meaning the low income house population. I feel the low income housing has a large population of the aging and disabled adults. The self-care and healthcare is definitely neglected here but if we can help educate this population with self-management care they will have a better outcome with their health.
Throughout your career, you’ve had a track record of helping so many others. What are some of your future aspirations to empower others through the resources and services you provide?
Shamika: I love to help others from the elderly to disabled adults achieve their best within their home and remaining independent as possible. I love that the aging population and disabled adults have options and one of those options being the possibility of remaining in their homes as long as possible. I know some seniors or the disabled population can ultimately take a decline within a nursing home and not because of lack of care or limited staff, but because of loneliness and depression. They ultimately lose their drive to push on. I also have a drive to help nurses and healthcare workers achieve the highest by educating them on other job opportunities and education within the healthcare industry such as leadership, administrative roles and becoming a business owner.
Congratulations and being a published author! What can you tell us about your books and how can we find them?

What do you believe is your purpose in life?
Shamika: My purpose in life is God-led. I truly believe that God wants me to take care of his people from the aging to the disabled. I believe my purpose is fully centered around helping others in healthcare and home care. I also believe God wants me to take care of low-income populations by providing services that are needed for the less fortunate. I will continue to serve God and follow what he has for me and others. My purpose is to serve the people.
What is a super fun fact about yourself that many people are not aware of?
Shamika: A super fun fact is I have a twin sister who mirrors me in everything we do in life. Our resumes are identical and our goals in life are identical. We share the same thought it’s crazy but God knows we need each other.
